Hermès DELLA CAVALLERIA lined Face Multiple colors
Equestrian art is a naturally privileged subject in the Émile Hermès collection.. Among the works devoted to him, an extraordinary treatise on riding, one of the most famous and important, titled Della Cavalleria. The author, German Georg Engelhard von Loehneyss, print this book in 1609, his home, in Remlingen in Bavaria. Illustrated with numerous baroque engravings, on wood and copper, this book is a veritable encyclopedia: dressage, anatomy, but also tournaments and parties, give rise to remarkable and spectacular illustrations. Inspired by the theme of metamorphosis, working the line in finesse, like engravers, Virginie Jamin takes here as a model some pieces of harness. Their subjects, extravagant figures – horses with the bodies of snakes, dragons and other chimeras – draw bits and buckles.
