From 1880 to 1934, a circus with free admission and a troupe of volunteer artists from the cream of high society, tasting the ancient pleasure of amateurism, flourished on rue de Bénouville in Paris. Its director Emile Molier, the "Centaur Man", gave an annual gala where clowns, trapeze artists, but above all riders, proved to an upscale audience that one can succeed while having fun and that leisure is a prodigious catalyst.
