In 1923, Hermès crafted a studded dog collar for a client's bulldog: a thick leather band, a central O ring and pyramid studs framing the neck. The motif moved onto belts by 1927, then tightened into a cuff bracelet in the 1940s under the name Collier de Chien, shortened by regulars to CDC. Around 60 Collier de Chien pieces are currently listed on JoliCloset, mostly bracelets in Box, Epsom or Swift leather, alongside a handful of rings.
Sizes and variants
The classic CDC comes in size T2 or T3 depending on wrist size, closed with an adjustable pin buckle that forgives a few millimetres either way. Hermès later added a narrower 24mm version for everyday wear, plus a miniature Mini Dog model. Every bracelet keeps the same four pyramid stud plaque and central ring inherited from the original 1923 collar. The Collier de Chien ring repeats the same studded language in silver or gold, while the house's Médor, its studded cousin, carries chunkier studs and a rounder silhouette.
Leathers and hardware
Box calf, smooth and structured, is the CDC's historic leather. Epsom, grained and hard wearing, shrugs off daily scuffs better, while Swift, softer to the touch, develops a nice patina over time. Hermès has also produced runs in Chamonix and Barenia, and, on the rarest pieces, in alligator, lizard or ostrich. Hardware comes gold plated, palladium plated for a silvery finish, or, less often, in rose gold.
Price on the pre-owned market
A leather CDC bracelet typically retails between roughly 1,000 and 1,500 EUR depending on size and leather, with exotic versions often above 3,000 EUR. Pre-owned, a Hermès Collier de Chien on JoliCloset starts from around 500 EUR, a spread that reflects leather condition, patina and how rare the colourway is. Across the whole Hermès jewelry selection, priced from 68 EUR up to well over 180,000 EUR, the CDC ranks among the more accessible entry points into the house's studded pieces. Like the Clic H or the Chaîne d'Ancre, it holds its value well, especially in timeless black or natural tones.
Authenticating a Collier de Chien
The date stamp, tucked under the leather near the buckle, marks the production year with a letter code. The "Hermès Paris Made in France" stamp should read crisp and perfectly centred, never blurry. Stud finishing, alignment and the weight of the buckle plaque are reliable tells too: a genuine CDC feels dense in hand, never light. Every piece sold on JoliCloset, including archived references still visible on this page, is checked against these points before listing.
