Pre-owned Celine 16 Bag — top handle | JoliCloset

The Celine 16 is Hedi Slimane's first handbag for the house, designed within months of his 2018 arrival as creative director. Its name is a direct reference to 16 rue Vivienne, Celine's historic Paris headquarters. The bag debuted on the Spring/Summer 2019 runway and reached stores in November 2018, marking the visual reset of the Slimane era — a more structured, more Parisian silhouette, and a logo stripped of the acute accent. Sizes and configurations

The 16 comes in three main sizes. The Mini measures 17.5 × 14 × 7 cm — a small handheld for evening. The Small (23 × 19 × 10 cm) is the most sought-after size on the resale market: compact enough to stay elegant, roomy enough for a phone, wallet and small pouch. The Medium (about 32 × 24 × 13 cm) reads as a daily carry. All three share the same architecture: a flat riveted top handle, a removable leather shoulder strap, a palladium or gold turnlock closure, and a flat outer pocket beneath the flap. The interior is lined in lambskin, with card slots inside.

Leathers and finishes

Satinated smooth calfskin is the dominant material, offered in black, taupe, natural beige and burgundy. Grained calfskin versions hold up better day-to-day and keep the rectangular structure cleaner — an advantage on the secondary market, where smooth-leather Mini and Small examples sometimes show softening at the corners. Seasonal runs include suede, patent and exotic skins (python, alligator) at materially higher price points. The Soft 16, an unstructured variant introduced in 2020, has become a desirable alternative for buyers who prefer a slouchy hold over the architectural box.

Retail vs. pre-owned value

At retail, the Celine 16 starts around $3,400 for the Small and rises above $4,500 for the Medium in grained calfskin.
