Pre-Owned Chanel Vanity Bag | JoliCloset

The Chanel Vanity bag draws its vocabulary from the train cases and cosmetic boxes that travelled with mid-century clients. Chanel first produced a run of quilted vanity cases between 1991 and 1995, then reinvented the silhouette for Cruise 2020 with the Vanity With Chain — a boxy square shape with a top handle and the classic leather-threaded chain. JoliCloset currently lists 359 pre-owned Chanel Vanity bags, from the Mini up to the most sought-after 1990s cases, with prices starting around $650 for small leather Vanity pieces and climbing past $6,500 for the rarest editions.

Sizes and variants

The current Vanity family is built around three formats. The Mini Vanity (≈ 11 cm) wears as an evening mini box-bag on the shoulder. The Small Vanity With Chain (≈ 17 cm) is the most in-demand size: a tidy square, a rigid top handle for hand-carry, and a gold-tone chain interlaced with leather for shoulder wear. The vintage Vanity Case from the early 1990s runs a little larger, keeps its zip-around closure, and features a full leather lining — a handful of references still carry the original interior mirror. Hardware moves between light gold, warmer champagne gold on recent seasons, and silver on a few reissues. See also the Trendy CC, whose top-handle vanity variation shares the same DNA.

Materials: caviar, lambskin, tweed and seasonal editions

Two leathers anchor the range. Quilted lambskin gives the Vanity its couture hand-feel and the softest matelassé, but it marks under rings and keys, so it rewards careful use. Caviar leather, grained and more rigid, holds the Vanity's square shape over time — genuinely practical for a structured box-bag that gets opened and closed often. Cruise and Métiers d'art collections have introduced tweed, quilted denim, patent camellia, raffia and transparent PVC versions for collectors. Most 1991-1995 vintage pieces are caviar in black, which is a solid entry point for a lasting first buy.

Price and value on the pre-owned market

The Small Vanity With Chain has climbed past $4,900 at retail and the Mini Vanity now sits close to $4,300 new. On JoliCloset, pre-owned Vanity pricing depends heavily on size, leather and condition: small leather Vanity items begin near $650, while a pristine vintage Vanity in good caviar, or a limited edition like Pearl Crush, filigree or camellia, will push past $6,500. The Vanity holds value particularly well — compact footprint, unmistakable Chanel codes, tight boutique supply.

Authenticating a Chanel Vanity

Our team checks the Chanel plaque on the front (depth of engraving, sharpness of the serifs), the regularity of the diamond quilting, the CC turnlock on Vanity With Chain models, the embossed zip pull, and the serial sticker and hologram inside. Pre-2015 vintage Vanity cases show a two-digit or low three-digit hologram; post-2021 pieces carry a microchip that replaces the paper serial sticker. Every listing ships with close-up photos of the stitching, lambskin lining and base.
