What blandness would our dishes have without all these grains, nails, berries and nuts that "raise" them, as we face a challenge! Glory to the adventurers who conquer spices beyond the horizon. To bring them to our kings and cooks, they faced the storm, endured the fevers, they fought the venomous snake and suffered deprivation. They were the heroes, whose exploits nourish our dreams before decorating our tables.It is quite possible that the first spices were known very early in Mesopotamia, because they were used in the temples. Transported by land or by sea, myrrh, incense, cinnamon, Cloves and other spices served to embalm the dead, while the living used them in medicine and culinary. Reserved for kings, spices were also used as a bargaining chip. The greatest explorers traveled on the spice route, discovering countries as they travel. They would go to great lengths to find spices, banishing their fears from unknown peoples and places. They planted, trade, transplanted ...
