Épinal imagery was founded in 1796 in France, in the Vosges. For two centuries, this printing house distributed color illustrations throughout Europe, illuminating countless themes : exotic flora and fauna, popular trades, historical events, fables and legends, riddles… Gianpaolo Pagni had the privilege of accessing the archives of this house and exploring behind the scenes. Drawing inspiration from the ancient engravings he discovered there, he composed this amazing theater scene in which wild animals are the protagonists. An ingenious assembly of geometric patterns which is reminiscent of the characteristic work of his stamp drawings.
