Pre-Owned Chanel Camera Bag | JoliCloset

Inspired by the 35mm film-camera cases of the 1990s, the Chanel Camera bag has a structured, boxy silhouette that the house has revived in cycles — from the vintage flat-chain caviar versions to the denim patchwork Coco Cuba unveiled by Karl Lagerfeld for the Cruise 2017 collection. It has never been part of the permanent line, which is precisely why collectors chase it on the resale market. JoliCloset currently lists more than 120 authenticated pre-owned Chanel Camera bags, with prices starting around €1,200 for compact lambskin formats and climbing past €4,500 for Cruise 2017 editions and vintage tassel pieces in excellent condition.

Sizes and variants

The Camera has historically come in three formats: Small (about 17 cm wide), Medium (around 20 cm) and Large (up to 25 cm). The 1990s vintage versions are recognisable by their front zip, braided leather tassel and leather-laced chain. The rarer Coco Cuba Camera from 2017 features faded denim patchwork and an aged metal CC. More recent Coco Camera Case iterations moved to a top zip with a combined leather-and-chain strap. Collectors gravitate toward vintage tassel models; everyday buyers usually pick a Medium in caviar.

Materials: caviar, lambskin, tweed, denim

Two leathers dominate the Camera line-up. Caviar leather — grained and firm — holds the boxy shape beautifully and wears well over time, which makes it the most practical first purchase. Quilted lambskin has a softer, more luminous hand but scuffs faster. You will also find couture tweed editions, quilted jersey versions and the Cruise 2017 denim patchwork. Linings are generally burgundy lambskin or black grosgrain depending on the season. On pre-owned pieces, check the lining for pen marks and the corners for rubbing — these are the two wear points that affect resale most.

Pre-owned prices and value

Because the Camera has never been a permanent boutique model, resale prices vary widely with provenance and condition. On JoliCloset, Small lambskin versions start around €1,200, Medium caviar bags sit between €2,000 and €3,200, and Coco Cuba 2017 or mint-condition vintage tassel pieces regularly clear €4,000. Rare patent, lizard or metallic editions reach €5,500. Because the model is revived only in cycles, it holds value well, and a number of Cruise editions now trade above their original boutique price.

Authentication and other Chanel models

Our experts check every Camera for the serial sticker (glued hologram pre-2021, NFC microchip after), the regularity of the quilting, the density of the stitching, the weight and finish of the CC clasp, and the lining fabric.
